What was your favorite YA book growing up? The Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery has always been a favorite of mine.

I agree Cheryl-Anne of Green Gables is one of the first books I remember truely escaping away with while reading. In highschool I was in love with a little known series called Roswell High by Melinda Metz (which later was the inspiration for the Roswell tv show). Those were the first books that I had to wait months and months for the next in the series to come out and got all my friends to read.

Well, I'm still growing up! But one of my all time favorites is You don't know me by David Klass. Their are multiple other amazing books but the list would be extremely long!

Sarah Bean the GreenBeanTeenQueen- I actually have the Roswell High books on my to read list! (found out about them on Paperbackswap.)

I still read my Anne books when I get a chance. Kevin Sullivan who produced the Anne movies has gotten so far away from the books now that I don't like to watch his new stuff. He's actually killing off Gilbert in the new movie!

I never watched Roswell, which is strange because I liked the X-Files. I also loved Buffy and Angel when they were on.

I've never heard of that book. I'll have to check it out.

What-killing of Gilbert??? I really hated the third movie he made, it was soo far from the books and didn't stick to the story. I knew he had a new actress playing adult Anne in the movies, so that right there made me upset. If Gil dies, I for sure won't watch!

I don't know how I missed Buffy as a teen, but am borrowing in from a friend to finally watch it. Roswell was good, but strayed from the books, so I stopped watching after the first season.

Oh, yeah, big stink about killing off Gil in WWII. Now, keeping in mind that he never fought in WWI or WWII that's a big problem for me right there. I didn't enjoy the 3rd movie because it was so unrealistic. I don't mind when a bit of creative license is taken when bringing something to the screen, but taking a character and having him fight in a war that his children did is a bit of a stretch for me.

It's really funny, but I don't think I actually read YA when I was a teen. I remember discovering Dean Koontz (THE STRANGERS) in my school library (how it slipped through the cracks, I don't know!) and getting hooked on books. Not to mention the Silhouette romances I would borrow from the library and hide in my backpack from my grandparents!

When it comes to classic YA, though, I remember being hooked immediately by FAHRENHEIT 451, ANIMAL FARM, and 1984. I wasn't much of an ANNE OF GREEN GABLES girl, or any of those frou-frou girly series. =)

I was more into horror, sci-fi, fantasy, action-adventure - pretty much the same things I enjoy reading today. Then again, there really wasn't much of a YA genre when I was growing up (at least I don't think there was!). There were the forced "classics" that we had to read (some bearable, some like dying a small death with each page).

Overall, I have to say YA has come a long, long way - and definitely for the better!

I liked Anne as a kid... but I think I liked Emily of New Moon even better. There were a lot of orphan books I liked as a kid-- Anne, Emily, Secret Garden, Ballet Shoes.... but I think they were more when I was maybe eight or ten. Like Jen, I don't really remember reading YA as a teen. I was all about Kerouac....

I'm still growing up also! But my favorite book of all is JUST LISTEN by Sarah Dessen. It's amazing and I can reread it a bunch of times over and over. But Sarah's books are all amazing and which is why she's probably my favorite author.

When I was a kid I was attracted to A Wrinkle in Time and the Anne books but I found this book of a simple fantasy tale called Shadow Castle. I must have read that book at least 10 times. I also liked an unknown book called Magic to Burn by Jean Fritz. I was enamored with that book to. I must have checked that book out of the library 10 times.

I still haven't read the Emily of New Moon books. I started, but I couldn't get into them. I'm hoping that will change if I get to read for sheer entertainment instead of reviewing one day.

They are coming out with a new Lucy Maud Montgomery biography in November. The author has researched Montgomery's life for over 20 years and she says that the note found my Montgomery's bedside does not prove that she willingly overdosed. Here's more about it: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080924.wmontgo... You can pre-order a copy here: http://www.amazon.ca/Lucy-Maud-Montgomery-Gift-Wings/dp/0385659830
