Spread the Word about THE DEBS Contest Sponsored by Random House/Lilly Pulitzer

I'm trying to get word out about the big contest for THE DEBS sponsored by Random House and designer Lilly Pulitzer. Girls ages 12-18 are eligible to enter and should submit an essay of up to 250 words on how they're helping their neighbors/community. Deadline is October 27, 2008. The winner gets a trip for four to New York City (three girls, one parent/guardian) and a shopping spree at the Lilly Pulitzer store on Madison Avenue! For rules and eligibility info, go to http://thedebsbooks.com

If any bloggers on YA YNot? could help spread the word, that would rock! Thanks so much!

Will spread the word. I grew up in Palm Beach and these types of books always make me chuckle. Before there was Roxanne Pulitzer there was Lily (Peter Pulitzer divorced Lily in the late 70's) and I grew up thinking every woman wore Lily floral pattern dresses and sandals. But speaking of debs I remember goint to dance lesson at the Bath & Tennis Club, where the instructors were looking for suitable boys to be deb escorts. Ahhhh the good old days.

Thanks, GBeesch. I remember having a Lilly sundress during high school, and now I'm writing about prep school seniors in Houston who wear them, too. I have to say that doing THE DEBS series is a lot of fun. Growing up in Texas alongside plenty of debs and deb-wannabes gives me endless stories! Sounds like you have a few of your own!

Cheers,
Susan

Susan,
Indeed, and strangely I was considered suitable material as an escort, I corrected that impression before it was too late, though cotillion night a few of us breezed in to one of the big after parties that our friend's parents threw for her. Good times. Now I think that Texans grow a different variety of deb than the East Coast does. . .would love to see a NY/Philly vs Texas deb documentary.

Or an East Coast deb vs. Texas deb throw-down...er, curtsy-down! I think people would pay money to see that! ;-)
