Allison van Diepen's Friends

Allison van Diepen's Page

Hi! I'm Allison van Diepen, author of STREET PHARM, SNITCH, and RAVEN (February 10, 2009).

ABOUT MY BOOKS...

SNITCH
"In a school run by gangs, staying out was harder than joining. We knew who our friends were, and were careful what we said. If people thought we were haters, it would only be a matter of time... "

Line are clearly marked at South Bay High School. It's mixed territory for the Crips and the Bloods, which means the drama never stops. Julia DiVino wants none of it. No colors, no C-Walks -- it's not just her thing. But when Eric Valiente jumps into her life, everything changes. Lines are redrawn. And then they're crossed.

STREET PHARM
"If a brother wanna get ahead, he gotta use every minute to better himself.
Everything I did made me better - tougher, stronger, richer, smarter - or I didn't
do it. Take high school. A waste of time. Nobody there taught me what I needed to
survive on the streets... "

Ty Johnson knows survival. Since inheriting his pop's business at sixteen, Ty's developed smarts, skills, and mad discipline. The supply game's in his blood. And life is pretty sweet when you're on top. But one slip - or one serious competitor - and life turns ugly fast. Suddenly, Ty's got to rethink his whole strategy. And for the #1 dealer on the streets, strategy is not just about staying ahead. It's about survival.

RAVEN

"The door that was always closed is opening, and I am consumed. I don’t know if a full minute goes by that I don’t think of him, that I don’t replay how it felt to have his hand brush mine, his eyes look my way. And yet he’s hiding, still. He talks as if my feelings for him are in the past, as if they couldn’t possibly be relevant now that I know the truth about him. But I don’t have that kind of power over how I feel. And if he doesn’t know that, he’s blind."

Zin dances with fire in every step, speaks with a honey-sweet voice, and sees with eyes that can peer into your soul. It's no wonder Nicole is madly in love with him. Their friendship is the only thing that saves her from the boredom of school and the turmoil of her family life. But she cannot understand why he keeps her at a distance, even though she can feel his soul reaching out for hers. Zin carries a very old secret. When Nicole uncovers the truth, her love may be the only thing that can save him from it.

Thanks for the friend invite. As you can tell, I don't check my site all that often. I love reading books that are totally unlike anything I could ever write, so I've added yours to my list.

Hi,

My name is Chris Tusa, and I'm a writer from New Orleans. My debut novel, Dirty Little Angels, is now available for pre-order from Amazon.com, and I am writing because I was hoping you might be willing to read it and post your thoughts on Amazon.com (or some of the other book review sites). If you're interested, I'd be more than willing to send you an e-book version by e-mail. Just let me know. I've included a summary of the novel below:

Dirty Little Angels
Set in the slums of New Orleans, among clusters of crack houses and abandoned buildings, Dirty Little Angels is the story of sixteen year old Hailey Trosclair. When the Trosclair family suffers a string of financial hardships and a miscarriage, Hailey finds herself looking to God to save her family. When her prayers go unanswered, Hailey puts her faith in Moses Watkins, a failed preacher and ex-con. Fascinated by Moses's lopsided view of religion, Hailey, and her brother Cyrus, begin spending time down at an abandoned bank that Moses plans to convert into a drive-through church. Gradually, though, Moses's twisted religious beliefs become increasingly more violent, and Hailey and Cyrus soon find themselves trapped in a world of danger and fear from which there may be no escape.

If you'd like to read the first chapter before you commit, feel free to visit my web site:

Thanks so much,
Chris

So you are definitely writing from experience. Hope you were able to reach that young person so they could turn their life around. What an accomplishment to leave in your wake. You deserve kudos for even trying and hopefully your books may touch others as well. Some you may not ever know about. How cool is that?! Keep up the good work.

Hi Allison, thanks for inviting me. Sounds like you have written about some pretty bold subjects. Stories about gangs/gansters have intrigued me due to the total difference in lifestyle and values than what I hold but at the same time they make me sad when you realize the absolute waste of a human being who could have made themselves into someone with value and substance. Wow, the decisions that some people end up making can really destroy them as well as the ones they touch. Powerful stuff. Thanks again for the invite.
