I'm the author of two young adult books, The Other Sister (Flux, 2007) and Remember This (Flux, 2008), as well as being a clinical neuropsychologist and mom/stepmom of six lovely young people, ages 8-15.
Escaping was what kept me going for a while. When I was a kid there wasn't much I could do, I couldn't play with the other kids because my parents and teachers were a little TOO anal about the idea of me getting hit on the noggin, but I could always read. Then I discovered something ever better, I didn't have to just READ the stories, I could WRITE them.
They say to write what you know, so I do quite a bit of that. Maybe someday I'll get that novel that keeps rearing it's head onto pages and then from there on, who knows...
Oh, I just read your profile, Neuropsych, aye? Then you'd defnitely understand my chronic health. Brain tumor removed at age five, shunted for hydrocephelus, had a shunt revision go wonky at age 12 ended up with a brain bleed and three weeks in the ICU. Numerous surgeries and supposed treatments after that. So you might understand why I write scifi, anything to escape this mess!
I'll have to check out your books, are they readily availiable at bookstores?
Well, I've written a lot of science fiction/horror, but also some "lighter" stuff sort of based off my own life experience of living with chronic illness. So I go back and forth between reality and completely opposite. How about you?
Thanks for the compliment on my cats (kittens in that picture). They were babies then...see how they've grown. You're quite an accomplished person with writing, such a prestigious career and a large and, I'm sure, lovely family! It's nice to meet you.

That's not mean - that's obviously some sort of drug-induced dementia! Your cover is absolutely LOVELY!
*sigh* I just don't understand sometimes...

It means a lot coming from someone with a cover as gorgeous as Remember This! Love that.
