I don't know how other authors feel when they turn in a book they've been working on like a maniac, but I feel equal parts relief and fatigue. Okay, and happiness, joy, anxiety. I've written five books in the last 2-1/2 years so that's a lot of relief, fatigue, happiness, joy, and anxiety (heavy on the fatigue). That comes from having had contracts with two different publishers that were overlapping, and, no, I'm not complaining! It's just that I'm not Nora Roberts so it's not typical for me to…

If you're a YA blogger or a YA/Children's book author, I'm hoping you can help. My former hometown of Houston got hit hard by Hurricane Ike, and a bunch of school libraries were clobbered by the residual storms and flooding. The Blue Willow Bookshop, a wonderful indie bookstore in Houston, is trying to help these libraries get re-stocked. If you think you can help, either by donating money, gently used hardcovers, or signed copies of your books (if you're an author)...or by spreading the word, p…

The Debs got a little shout out in the
New York Times in a recent article called "
Markets Stall but Spoiled Always Sells" in the Fashion & Style section. The piece talks about YA fiction like the Gossip Girl and Clique books and how they provide escapism during crazy times, sort of like
Dynasty and
Dallas (the TV shows) did for folks after the Cra…

I'm guest blogging again! Today, I'm at the
Stiletto Gang, talking about juggling responsibilities and re-prioritizing life. My priorities today: hit the grocery store, finish Chapter Eight, pack for the Southern Festival of Books, and buy a new keyboard. My keys had been sticking, and my computer dude husband took a few of them off last night to tell me, "You know that 'gray felt' you thought was undernearth your keys? It's really cat hair." Ick…

In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month (as well as my birthday month!), I've contributed a piece about my experience with breast cancer to the ConstantChatter.com site. If you're interested, you can read my story here: http://www.constantchatter.com/2008/10/09/how-i-listened-to-my-body-and-survived-breast-cancer/496
Seems like these days it's either happened to us or we have friends or family who've been diagnosed (or all of the above!). I think the more we talk and share, the…
